One Dozen Fertilised Eggs – Backyard Rainbow Layers
Bring colour and variety to your flock with our Backyard Rainbow Layer fertile eggs! These lively cross-bred hens are a mix of Cream Legbar, Araucana, Marans, Olive Eggers, Easter Eggers, Light Sussex, Frizzles, and the occasional Appenzeller influence. The result is a flock full of personality — and a daily egg basket in shades of blue, green, olive, grey, pink, cream, and brown.
Each dozen fertilised eggs is carefully packaged in an egg-safe Eggspress foam carton and securely boxed for shipping. We send all orders via Express Post on Mondays to ensure maximum freshness and the best possible chance of success.
Because these birds are mixed-breed layers, every chick hatched is a surprise — with different looks, feather types, and egg-laying potential depending on its parentage. That’s part of the joy of raising rainbow layers: no two flocks will ever be the same!
Hatching Your Eggs
Watching your chicks emerge is one of the most rewarding parts of poultry keeping. To give your eggs the best chance, we recommend using a quality incubator and following the guidelines below:
Incubator Settings
- Temperature: 37.8°C for the first 18 days, reducing to 37.4°C for the final days
- Humidity: 40-45% for the initial 18 days, with an increase during lockdown to 50-60% to support hatching
- Lockdown: On day 18, avoid opening the incubator and allow the natural hatching process to occur. Opening the incubator can affect your hatch rate
Dry hatching is also an option in more humid climates, with natural changes in the air cell often supporting excellent hatch rates.
Please note: The colour of the egg a chick hatches from does not guarantee the colour of the eggs it will lay as an adult. Egg colour genetics are complex, and part of the fun is the surprise.
